Lidl has often been praised for its good value – but how about a free bag of cocaine with your produce?
The supermarket chain received more than 100kg of cocaine at its Spanish stores last weekend, hidden in the bottom of several crates of bananas that had been imported by sea from Ecuador, and snapped up by Lidl at a wholesale fruit and vegetable market in Madrid.
But it wasn’t until an employee shelf stacker got ready to put out the produce that the bags of cocaine were discovered. Police said the traffickers had somehow failed to pick up their cocaine, which had a street value of around £4.02 million.
