As suspected, Cadbury have accepted the new takeover bid from Kraft, with 840 pence a share.  Shareholders still have to agree to the takeover, but it is expected there will be little opposition.

Concerns have arisen again regarding loss of jobs, with staff numbers at Cadbury’s head office in Uxbridge expected to be cut.

Reacting to the news, a descendent of Cadbury’s founder called the takeover “a horror story”.

“Every single iconic brand is going – we sell out everything,” Felicity Loudon, George Cadbury’s great-granddaughter, told the BBC.  “For us to sell out to a company that doesn’t bear any resemblance to us at all is a horror story.”

Kraft said the deal would create a “global confectionary leader.”
