It was widely touted that Graham Norton would be stepping into Jonathan Ross’s shoes once he leaves the BBC in July.  But now a new contender has emerged – Michael McIntyre.

The giggly comedian has just signed a golden handcuff deal supposedly worth £500,000 a year with the corporation.  It is not known yet precisely what he’ll be getting up to.  A BBC spokesperson stated: “We do not discuss contracts or money. But there will be another series of Comedy Roadshow and hopefully a few other things.”

The move is seen by some as a distancing from the “Sachsgate” affair, and a step towards safer, less edgier comedy on the Beeb.
