The Rise and Fall of Men’s Waistbands February 1, 2010

Retailer Debenhams has just released the results of a survey into the relation between a man’s age and the position of his trouser line.

No longer do you need to try and guess at a man’s age – you can now get a pretty good idea just by looking at where he positions his waistband.

Crotch-skimming jeans?  Chances are, you’re around sixteen years old.  Up by your ears?  Congratulations, you are fifty seven – apparently the age where your waistband is at its highest (seven inches below the armpit – yikes!)

It’s fascinating stuff, although personally we sort of agree with commented ‘Lily’, who states:

“I don’t think it has anything to do with age at all – it all depends on the belly issue. There comes a time in a man’s life when he has to make the decision that he will stick to until the day he dies – am I an up-and-over or an up-and-under? … it all depends on where you want the belly bulge to be seen – in your shirt or in your trousers.”

A good point, Lily.  A very good point.  Which one are you, male BWT readers?
