Reports Of Massive PS3 Hardware Failure March 1, 2010

Are you a Playstation 3 owner?  Do you own a “fat” (non-slim) Playstation 3?

If so, you might not want to turn your console on today, after reports have surfaced of a massive internal bug that cripples your machine.

Information is still trickling in, but it seems that the bug is connected to the PS3’s calendar.  The bug wreaks havoc with the PS3’s DRM and authentication systems, making some games unplayable – even if you’re not connected to the internet.

It also effects paid-for PSN content and trophies.

Sony’s current official line is that they’re looking into the problem.  But in the meantime, if you haven’t turned on your Playstation 3 recently, it’s advised that you keep it powered off until a solution to the bug is found.

Remember, this only affects old/”fat” PS3’s – so if you have a PS3 slim, you’re (apparently) safe.
