HSBC Boss Gives Four Million To Charity March 2, 2010

These days, it’s not often you hear a positive news story involving the salaries of British bankers.

But Michael Geoghegan, the chief executive of HSBC, has bucked the trend with the announcement that he will be donating his bonus of approximately four million pounds to children’s charities.

Of course, you could argue it’s just a big PR stunt.  Many bank bosses have given up their rights to bonuses this year, to appease public anger over government bailouts during the recession.  But even if it is just for the sake of publicity, there are going to be a lot of happy kids thanks to Mr Geoghegan.  And that ain’t bad.
