Health and safety strikes again!

The annual cheese-rolling event in Gloucestershire has been cancelled after concerns about safety because of the number of spectators it attracts.

The competition, which dates back hundreds of years, involves participants chasing a 7lb Double Gloucester cheese down a hill in a series of races.

Last year’s event attracted 15,000 people, and this year’s was expected to draw even more.

We guess health and safety might have a point on this one.  The event has grown a lot over the past few years.

We hope the organizers sort something out so we can get our cheesy fix for the next event in 2011.

This has been reported in the press as an example of nannying by authorities but you’re right to point out that it’s the sheer number of people in a small area that’s the problem.

Maybe next year folk’ll have to buy a ticket to get into the area?

🙂
