Here’s something you don’t read about every day.

Ali Hussain Sibat, former host of a popular call-in show that aired on a Beirut based satellite TV channel, has been tried and sentenced to death for ‘sorcery.’

On his show Sibat would predict the future and give out advice to his audience.

The 48 year old father of five was arrested by Saudi Arabia’s religious police in May 2008.  After being sentenced, Sibat appealed the verdict, with the Mecca appeals court stipulating that all charges needed to be verified and that he should be given a chance to repent.  But the appeal was rejected.

Amnesty International is now calling on Saudi Arabia’s King Abdullah to stop the execution.  We sincerely hope they will be successful.  How a man can be sentenced to death for sorcery by a court of law is completely beyond us.
