Spring is finally here!  Well, sort of.  And it’s also nearing the end of the month, which usually means PAY DAAAAAAAAAY!

Fortunately, the kind folks at Joy clothing have some gorgeous 1950s inspired dresses to take away that pesky money from your bank account.  We’re particularly taken with the Hawaiian and surf-inspired prints.  Just click on the images displayed to be taken to the appropriate product page.

Primark Criticsed for ‘Premature Sexualisation’ of Children April 15, 2010

Primark has fallen into hot water again, and this time it’s not for allegations on child labour.

The clothing chain has recently withdrawn sale of its padded bikini tops aimed at girls as young as seven.

The £4 bikini sets came in candy pink with gold stars and black with white polka dots.

The Children’s Society criticised Primark for “premature sexualisation and unprincipled advertising”.

The retailer apologised to customers for “causing offence” and said it would donate profits to a children’s charity.

Primark, which is well-known for its heavily discounted brands, has 138 UK stores and 38 in Ireland.

It is the latest chain to face criticism over products considered too adult for youngsters.

Asda has been singled out for a push-up bra aimed at young girls, and Tesco withdrew a pole-dancing kit from its toys section.

Sad, but not surprising…

Ladies, grabbing a bargain doesn’t give you the excuse to act like an animal.

A shame some particular ladies in France didn’t pay attention, as they went on a stampede during the opening of a H&M store in Toulouse.  Once the store opened chaos ensued as everyone tried to get their hands on anything they could find that was made by Sonia Rykiel.

Check out one staff member running for her life as soon as the shutters came up!

Forget the Snuggie.  There’s a new lazy-arse-blanket in town.  And it’s called the MusucBag!

The rather unpronouncable item is sleeping bag crossed with a full body suit, available for kids and adults.

Their website reads:

“Our sleeping bag with arms and legs offers zips on the hands allowing you to hold items, ventilation zips on the legs to cool you down, MP3 pockets to fall asleep to your music (MusucBag Kids model only) and durable canvas on the feet to walk to your favourite stage at a music festival.”

We’d probably be more warm to the idea of the Musuc, did it not make its wearers look like adult-baby versions of the Stay Puft Marshmalllow Man.  But hey – asking to look stylish and sexy in a sleeping bag maybe one ask too many.  If you’re camping, festivaling, or just really really cold, it’s certainly a viable idea.

Who is your style icon?

Kate Moss?  Audrey Hepburn?  Marilyn Monroe?

How about Barbie?  Because right now at ASOS.com, not only can you buy your own little chic Barbie doll (with accessories!), you can also buy life-size versions of Barbie’s clothes.

We can’t decide if this is something really cool, or really odd.

What do you think, BWT readers?  Would you like to dress like Barbie?

Oh no! Ethel Austin, the clothing retailer, has gone into administration for the second time in two years.

If a new buyer isn’t found for the chain, it could mean that the retailer will close its doors for good.

In a sad twist, Ethel Austin had recently taken over twelve empty stores formerly occupied by Woolworths – who met a similar fate, shutting up shop last year.

We must admit, it’s been years since BWT stepped into an Ethel’s – and clearly, we’re not alone. But with over seventy five years of trading under its belt, we really hope the retailer can turn things around, before another piece of the British high street is resigned to the history books for good.

It wasn’t just Patrick Stewart who started the New Year with a bang.  Catherine Isabel Audrey Kidston (otherwise known as the founder of kitsch homeware shop Cath Kidston) has been given an MBE in the New Year’s Honours List this week.

The MBE was given “for services to business.”

Any chance Cath will celebrate her success with a 90% discount?  Here’s hoping…
